Yoga comprises several body postures, which are called yogasanas in Sanskrit. Many people practice pranayama as part of their yogic exercise. In pranayama, people sit cross-legged on the ground and concentrate on their breathing. This form of yoga imparts people with day-long energy and calmness. Several yogasanas like halasana and shirshasana help people battle minor ailments like indigestion, mental stress, backache etc. While yoga cannot replace traditional treatment techniques, I find it can be an excellent complement to existing medications and treatments.
Reiki is a combination of two Japanese words. REI means ‘God’s Wisdom’ or ‘Higher Power’ and KI means ‘life force energy’. Reiki has been introduced by USUI, a Japanese Buddhist to help people with stress reduction, relaxation and energy channeling. It also promotes healing. In this technique practitioner uses their hands to allow ‘life force energy’ to flow easier and revitalise the parts of the persons’ body, which may require healing. Reiki is a complementary and holistic healing and it does not replace a professional medical advice. If in any doubt, please seek advice of a medical professional first. The treatment is an individual experience and it may differ how a person will feel afterwards. However, there are some common qualities described such as release from stress, a deep state of relaxation or emotional release. Reiki treats the whole person, their body, mind and spirit, and creates many beneficial effects such as feelings of peace, security and well-being. The practitioner is not a healer but a channel through which the flow of Reiki transfers. If you feel under the weather lately, overwhelmed and lacking energy, it may be worth trying it. Please discuss with Joanna, if you would like any more details. If you’ve not had a Reiki treatment before, it can seem like a bit of a mystical process. The treatment is simple, though, and nothing to be worried about. Reiki is always gentle. When you come for your Reiki session, you will keep remain clothed and sit comfortably before your Reiki session starts.
